4 Best Places to Go on a Summer Hike

If you’re looking to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather this summer, there’s nothing that quite compares to a hike. It’s the perfect combination of exercise, tranquility, and natural beauty, and Warren has some really great trails. Keep reading to learn a bit more about some of the area’s best summer hiking spots.
Warren to North Warren Bike Trail 
Follow the Conewango Creek from downtown Warren to North Warren’s business district on this 3-mile trail. On your hike, you can enjoy breath-taking views of the Conewango and the occasional spotting of wildlife along the creek’s banks, including birds, deer, and ducks. As you head north, the trail eventually veers away from the creek and begins following alongside US 62. In North Warren, the trailhead is situated in a park, complete with restrooms, parking, a garden, and picnic areas. The trail is paved with asphalt, making it wheelchair accessible and great for walking, biking, or horseback riding.
The Allegheny National Forest Minister Creek Trail 
If you’re looking for more of a challenge, the Minister Creek Trail in the Allegheny National Forest could be just the ticket. This trail is 6.6-miles long and is completely unpaved, so come prepared to hike through grass and dirt. But that isn’t to say that you’ll have a hard time following the trail. It’s heavily used and features white diamonds as markers along the way. The trailhead is located next to the Minister Creek Campground on SR 666. On the north end, this trail links up with the North Country National Scenic Trail.

Kinzua Valley Trail
Located deep in the Allegheny National Forest lies this 6-mile trail that stretches from Westline to Kane. You’ll follow a calm, crushed stone path along the Kinzua Creek. If you’re interested in casting a line, there’s also a 0.6-mile, hilly extension on Forest Road that leads hikers to the Red Bridge Bank Fishing Area in Kane. This trail is used for cross country skiing, walking, and biking. There are also benches conveniently located along the path, allowing you to pause and enjoy Pennsylvania’s natural beauty.
As you make your way, you may run into some local wildlife, like birds and deer.
Clifford R. Betts Park Trail
This trail is located at the Allegheny River’s edge in Clifford R. Betts Park and provides a partially graveled and partially paved surface, which is great for wheelchair accessibility.  At only 2.1-miles long and a total elevation of 13 feet, this trail loop is a great choice for hikers of all skill levels. You can even bring your furry friend along. Just keep in mind that an impressive bird population makes this a hot spot for the area’s bird watchers.
Once you’ve finished the loop, you can enjoy the park, which features benches, picnic pavilions, charcoal grills, restrooms, baseball fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, and a canoe launch.
