July 3rd, 2020 by

Looking for something that will keep the whole family entertained and happy can be a challenge. Fortunately, there are a ton of activities in and around North Warren that anyone at any age will enjoy. Keep reading to learn about some of North Warren’s best family-friendly activities.
Explore the Allegheny Reservoir
Along the Allegheny River, there are limitless possibilities for family fun. The Allegheny Reservoir is a 7,647 acre outdoor attraction surrounded by the Allegheny National Forest. Originally created in the 1960s thanks to the construction of the Kinzua Dam, the reservoir spans from Pennsylvania to New York. Whether it’s fishing, swimming, or boating, you’re sure to find an activity that keeps everyone entertained all day long. If you’re looking for more of a weekend getaway, there are also campgrounds and cabins for rent nearby.
During your visit, you can bring your own boat, but there are also places for boat, kayak, and canoe rentals.
Bowl at Riverside Lanes
Bowling is the perfect family activity because it’s fun for everyone, no matter how skilled they are at knocking down pins. It doesn’t hurt that it’s usually a relatively inexpensive activity. You can easily keep the kids entertained for a few hours at Riverside Lanes, which originally opened in 1959. Riverside offers open bowling, junior bowling, or you can join a league. It’s also a great spot to host a party!

Visit Rimrock Overlook
Allegheny National Forest offers so many exciting opportunities for outdoor recreation that are fun and educational for the entire family. For example, you can show your kids the majesty and beauty that Pennsylvania has to offer by hitting the Rimrock Hiking Trail. The trail is just 1.3 miles, and takes you from Kinzua Beach to the stunning Rimrock Overlook. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to reach the overlook, which provides visitors with incredible views of Allegheny’s hillsides, Kinzua Bay, and the Allegheny Reservoir. Though the trail may prove difficult in parts for younger children, most of the journey is level with only a gradual change in elevation.
Along the trail, you can explore giant rock outcrops, crevasses, and sandstone boulders. There are handrails and stone steps to facilitate the “climb” on the boulders to reach the overlooks. During your journey, you’ll travel through some heavily forested areas, where a ton of wildlife find their meals, including turkey, grouse, deer, and the occasional bear.
Go Horseback Riding
If you’re looking for a new and exciting experience for the whole family, there’s nothing quite like getting on the back of a horse. Horseback riding, much like canoeing or kayaking, is a physical activity that fosters patience and a sense of calm. Spending some time with these strong and gentle animals can teach you and your little ones a lot of lessons about slowing down. Luckily, there are quite a few equestrian centers around Warren that provide lessons, camps, and even special family-oriented rides.
Whether you’re hopping on a horse or hitting the lake, there are plenty of things to do in Warren that are exciting for everyone in the family.
